Cognitive Sciences

With the “Cognitive Sciences” program, the WWTF supported scientific projects and Vienna Research Groups in the field of cognitive and neurosciences. The aim of the program was to fund projects that expand the understanding of cognitive processes in humans, animals, and machines, thereby contributing to a better understanding of how the brain works and functions. With the support of the WWTF, this field has been able to establish itself strongly in Vienna, as demonstrated by the field’s successes in terms of scientific excellence funding such as ERC and FWF. Cognitive aspects now also play an important role in many WWTF programs as part of interdisciplinary collaborations.

In total, 21 WWTF projects (including Vienna Research Groups) were funded, with a total volume of € 14,201,346.

Earlier calls

The third WWTF Call “Cognitive Sciences" is completed. Proposals had to bring together two to three different disciplines to address innovative research questions in order to advance the understanding of cognition in humans, animals or artificial systems. Improving the interconnectedness of different research areas within the call theme was another key element of this call.
