WWTF Gender Mainstreaming Measures

Results from the EU funded project GEECCO

WWTF Gender Mainstreaming Measures

The project "Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment - GEECCO" (Horizon 2020, SWaFs Call 2016) was completed in summer 2021. The active participation of WWTF is another important milestone regarding "Gender Equality" in the internal processes and funding mechanisms of WWTF.

Why is Gender Equality important to us?

We want to address the approach of gender mainstreaming in all of its complexity. Therefore, WWTF addresses gender equality at all levels of operation, including calls for proposals, internal process management and evaluation management.

"Gender mainstreaming is a globally accepted strategy for promoting gender equality. Mainstreaming is not an end in itself but a strategy, an approach, a means to achieve the goal of gender equality. Mainstreaming involves ensuring that gender perspectives and attention to the goal of gender equality are central to all activities [of an organization]." (Unites Nations Women, 2020)

What concrete results has the GEECCO project produced?

- Compilation of international best-practice examples on gender mainstreaming in research funding organizations.

- Exhibition on "integrating gender dimensions in the content of research and innovation".

- Evaluation and monitoring material for the preparation of a Gender Equality Plan (GEP)

- Collection of possible evaluation criteria with regard to gender

Impact of the GEECCO project on the WWTF

The participation in GEECCO project has not only provided the WWTF with concrete results but has also initiated further development. In particular, aspects from three areas will be more clearly highlighted in the future:

            - Gender in teams

            - Gender in content

            - Gender in decision-making

Read more about each area in Donia Lasinger's blog post on Elephant in the Lab.

"Taking into account the gender dimension in research and innovation adds value in terms of excellence, creativity and business opportunities." (European Commission, Horizon 2020 - Online Manual)
