''Empowerment'' in artistic and social scientific work practices

''Empowerment'' in artistic and social scientific work practices
Principal Investigator:
Project title:
''Empowerment'' in artistic and social scientific work practices
Status:
Completed (01.03.2010 – 31.12.2012)
Funding volume:
€ 268,000

The object of the project is the mutual investigation and critical reflection of artistic and social-science practices concerned with "empowerment" by social scientists and artists respectively. It aims to compile and convey practice-relevant knowledge on how empowerment activities in art and research contexts can be professionalised, what criteria are to be found for successful projects and what mistakes are to be avoided in the (naive) claim to the empowerment of others. To achieve this, the project will initiate an intensive exchange between social scientists and artists observing each others' practices (art explores and produces findings on social science and vice-versa) and a cooperative production of output which will include a jointly developed intervention and a "Box for meaningful Empowerment", i.e. a collection of documents and resources to support teaching of students in art and social science and also practitioners' development of projects aimed at empowerment.
