Many of the current societal challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, refugee crises, and algorithmic biases are by nature complex phenomena, composed of various socio-demographic groups embedded in a complex system of power and privilege. It is therefore crucial to address digitalization and humanism through the lens of complex systems. Despite its importance, digital humanism currently has no formal place in the developments of complexity science research. Within this proposal, we aim to put the Complexity Science Hub Vienna Institute as one of the key players in developing a digital humanism roadmap for complexity science research. To this end, we aim to build a community of scholars, policy makers, and industrial players who are focused on developing human-centric technological tools through the lens of complex systems.
