In its “Mathematics and …” thematic programme, the WWTF aims to promote scientific projects, endowed chairs and Vienna Research Groups in the field of mathematics which pursue an interdisciplinary approach and offer the prospect of medium-term utilisation and exploitation.
One focus is on funding of projects headed by “high potentials”. These are generally young and highly talented scientists who have acquired substantial research experience, also abroad, and who are about to take the next career and development step. In this case, potential candidates are explicitly expected to submit applications themselves.

Stefan Hetzl (TU Wien) and Martin Ehler (Uni Wien) will come to Vienna to build their own research groups here.
Decisions for the Vienna Research Groups for Young Investigators Call 2012 in the WWTF thematic programme Mathematics and... have been made at the jury meeting on December 10-11, 2012. The decision process included a strictly international expert jury, peer review, funding recommendation by the jury and formal decision by the WWTF Board of Directors on December 18, 2012.
In a two-step process 30 short proposals have been submitted to WWTF, from those the jury selected 11 and invited them to submit a full proposal. Each of the 11 full proposals was subject to a minimum of two peer reviews from international scientists of the respective field. All candidates have been invited to a hearing in front of the jury which resulted in the funding recommendation.
